The La Jolla Cove Heist is a sci-fi treasure hunt in the spirit of Indiana Jones. It's got an R-rating, a bit of alternate history mixed with the tech of tomorrow, and has Southern California's famous San Diego area as its playground. Scott Rydeker has spent the last year lost and slumming as a bouncer in nightclubs. He was working for his Uncle Rick's private security firm, but Rick up and dropped dead with no discernable cause-and on Scott's 18th birthday, leaving him all alone in the world. Welcome to adulthood. Now it's Scott's 19th birthday, and after earning a one month suspension from his job of smacking people who misbehave at the Red Lightning Nanosport Club, Randall McGregor comes knocking on his trailer door. Randall says he's an old friend of Uncle Rick's from back in their mercenary days. Thirty years ago, a hostage rescue job in Puerto Vallarta put him and Rick on the trail of a set of custom lenses made by the keeper of the old Point Loma Lighthouse over a hundred years ago. What the lenses were made for, and their purpose, is a mystery with few clues. But they disappeared shortly before the keeper died, and the government was keenly interested in their recovery. Now the lenses are potentially worth millions, and Randall thinks he may finally know where they are at, but he needs help. With Rick dead and gone, that leaves Scott. What starts as a simple consultation for a thousand bucks pay turns into a job offer Scott can't refuse: finish the work Randall and Uncle Rick started, and get the lenses. Problem is, Scott has no idea what he's doing. But he's going to make Uncle Rick proud and figure it out one way or another, so he joins forces with some of San Diego's young and hotshot criminal talents. But before this job is over, he's going to find out that despite humanity's mastery of science and profound understanding of the universe, there exists a world of wonders he never imagined possible. And out there on that lonely peninsula, the old Point Loma Lighthouse holds a secret no government would ever want revealed.
