The Lady of the Shroud is a Gothic horror novel written by Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula. The story is set in the early 20th century and follows the young Englishman Rupert Saint Leger, who inherits a large estate on the remote island of Vissarion in the Adriatic Sea. When he arrives on the island, he is greeted by the strange and superstitious locals who warn him of the curse of the Lady of the Shroud, a mysterious figure who is said to haunt the island.Rupert soon becomes obsessed with the Lady of the Shroud and begins to investigate her origins. He discovers that she was a beautiful and wealthy young woman named Teuta, who was forced into an arranged marriage with a cruel and abusive husband. Teuta eventually died and was buried in a shroud made of a rare and valuable fabric, which is now said to possess magical powers. As Rupert delves deeper into the mystery of the Lady of the Shroud, he becomes embroiled in a dangerous plot involving a secret society, a stolen treasure, and a vengeful ghost. Along the way, he falls in love with a beautiful and mysterious woman named Zephyr, who may hold the key to unlocking the secrets of the Lady of the Shroud. The Lady of the Shroud is a thrilling and suspenseful tale of love, betrayal, and supernatural terror, written in Stoker's signature style of Gothic horror. It is a must-read for fans of classic horror literature and anyone who enjoys a good ghost story.I have waited till now--well into midday--before beginning to set down the details of the strange episode of last night. I have spoken with persons whom I know to be of normal type. I have breakfasted, as usual heartily, and have every reason to consider myself in perfect health and sanity. So that the record following may be regarded as not only true in substance, but exact as to details. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
