Lavius Egyptus is a historical fiction novel written by Thomas Sawyer Spivey. The story takes place in ancient Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II. The main character, Lavius, is a slave who works in the mines of Nubia. He dreams of one day being free and returning to his homeland in Greece. Lavius' life changes when he is sold to a wealthy Egyptian family and becomes a tutor for their son. He learns about Egyptian culture and religion, and becomes fascinated with the country's history and architecture. Lavius also falls in love with a beautiful Egyptian woman named Nefertari, but their relationship is forbidden due to their different social statuses. As Lavius becomes more involved in Egyptian society, he becomes aware of the political tensions between Egypt and neighboring countries. He also learns about the construction of the great temples and monuments, including the famous Abu Simbel temple.
