The trigger: The story begins with the mysterious death of watchmaker Urs Vontobel in Lucerne. Basel detective Rösli , a man of the old school, is called in to assist the down-to-earth Lucerne investigator Zgraggen . It quickly becomes clear: Vontobel was no ordinary craftsman, but an archivist of dangerous secrets from 1986 ( the Schweizerhalle disaster ).
The conspiracy: The investigation leads the duo through nighttime Lucerne, an illegal casino, and finally to the windswept summit of Mount Pilatus . It turns out that Vontobel possessed data and samples from a project called Resonance . A powerful pharmaceutical group had, for decades, distributed markers in the drinking water, making it possible to biometrically monitor the entire population.
The showdown: On the steep cogwheel railway of Mount Pilatus, the final confrontation with the unscrupulous chemist Dr. Ganz takes place . While a helicopter circles overhead, a suspected poison ampoule is destroyed. However, Rösli realizes too late: The signal to activate the surveillance system has already been sent. The people are now marked, recognizable by an eerie blue flicker in their eyes.
The resolution: Rösli returns to Basel and resigns from his post, unable to tolerate digital surveillance. But Vontobel has taken precautions: he left behind an old grandfather clock bearing the Basel basilisk , containing physical deactivation codes on microfilm. Rösli hands these codes over to the Basel guilds , who, with their analog influence, establish a blocking signal and transform the Basel region into a digital blind spot - a place of freedom.

The world outside remains transparent and digital, but deep in the city's foundations lies a secret with the power to bring the system down at any moment. The basilisk sleeps, but it is awake.
