Ethiopia writes a letter to her people in this heart-rending look at the majestic history and uncertain future of this ancient plow nation. It is the source of the Nile, coffee and teff; it is a land of tolerance and diversity. But this cradle of civilization has suffered much upheaval and faces environmental challenges from climate change and human activity that threaten its future.

Written by respected Ethiopian scholar Dr Worku Mulat and illustrated by brilliant Ethiopian artist Daniel Getahun, this love letter from a nation to her people is both inspiring and heart-breaking. Bilingual text helps readers to develop vocabulary and fluency. Part of the Open Hearts Big Dreams Ready, Set, Go series of early readers in African and global languages.

Winner of a 2022 Best in the World Gourmand Award for fundraising and illustration.

Open Hearts Big Dreams Ready Set Go (OHBD-RSG) Books were created to help increase the literacy rate in Ethiopia through giving readers books with stories in their heart languages, full of colorful illustrations with Ethiopian settings and details. Profits from book sales are used to create, print, and distribute more OHBD-RSG books to kids in Ethiopia, Africa's second most populous country. Ethiopia's population has a high percentage of children ages 0-14. Only a small percentage attend pre-school or kindergarten, and the adult literacy rate is around 50%.
