The historical experience of librarianship, accumulated in the years of formation and strengthening of the Soviet power, is of theoretical and practical interest for further increasing the level of public role of libraries, improving the system of library services to the multinational population of the modern Republic of Dagestan. From the theoretical point of view, the process of forming the principal typological structure of libraries, library networks of various departments and public organizations attracts attention. From a practical point of view, the experience of functioning of libraries in accordance with the state policy of public, social and economic development of the country is valuable. Being one of the pages in the history of culture of the peoples of Dagestan, the librarianship is an important additional information means of disclosure of the content and goals of the creative commonwealth of Dagestani peoples among themselves and with the peoples of other countries.
