The Life and Remains of John Clare is a book written by J.L. Cherry that provides a comprehensive account of the life and works of the famous English poet John Clare. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on Clare's life and the second part featuring a collection of his poems, essays, and other writings. The first part of the book delves into Clare's early life, his upbringing in rural England, and his struggles with poverty and mental illness. It also explores his rise to fame as a poet, his relationships with other writers and intellectuals of his time, and his eventual decline into obscurity. The second part of the book features a selection of Clare's most famous poems, including I Am, The Badger, and The Shepherd's Calendar. It also includes some of his lesser-known works, such as his essays on natural history and his correspondence with other writers.Overall, The Life and Remains of John Clare is a fascinating and insightful look into the life and works of one of England's most beloved poets. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of English literature, as well as for fans of Clare's poetry. All that was possible was done for Clare at the house of Dr. Allen, one of the early reformers of the treatment of lunatics. He was kept pretty constantly employed in the garden, and soon grew stout and robust. After a time he was allowed to stroll beyond the grounds of the asylum and to ramble about the forest. He was perfectly harmless, and would sometimes carry on a conversation in a rational manner, always, however, losing himself in the end in absolute nonsense. In March, 1841, he wrote a long and intelligible letter to Mrs. Clare, almost the only peculiarity in which is that every word is begun with a capital letter. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
