The first of two classic works of the untamed frontier The words of George Frederick Ruxton have come to epitomise the life of the far westerners, the mountain men and trappers who lived often short but thrilling and exotic lives among and fighting against the warriors of the great Indian tribes of North America. So it is perhaps surprising to many that Ruxton was an Englishman. Here was a true soldier of fortune, explorer and adventurer. He had fought as a lancer in the Spanish Civil War of the early nineteenth century and served as an officer in the 89th Foot of the British Army in Canada. Nevertheless, it was his travels, adventures and experiences of the wild, romantic and dangerous life of the men of the wilderness that brought him everlasting acclaim. Here are the adventures of Killbuck, La Bonté and others to enthral every reader. This is volume one of Ruxton's two book series of the American Frontier. The second volume, 'Adventures in Mexico and the Rocky Mountains' is also available from Leonaur, in soft cover or hard cover with dust jacket for collectors.
