The Life of Henry Fawcett is a biographical work written by Leslie Stephen and published in 1885. The book chronicles the life and achievements of Henry Fawcett, an influential British economist, politician, and social reformer of the Victorian era. Fawcett was born in Salisbury in 1833 and grew up to become a prominent figure in British politics and society. Despite losing his sight in a hunting accident at the age of 25, Fawcett went on to become a successful economist and was appointed as a professor of political economy at Cambridge University. He was also a member of parliament for many years and played a key role in the passage of important social and political reforms, including the 1870 Education Act and the 1875 Public Health Act. Fawcett was a champion of women's rights and was married to the suffragist Millicent Garrett, who later became a prominent leader in the women's suffrage movement. The Life of Henry Fawcett provides a detailed and insightful portrait of this remarkable man and his contributions to British society and politics during a time of great change and upheaval. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
