The Lost Dauphin: Louis XVII Or Onwarenhiiaki, The Indian Iroquois Chief is a historical fiction novel written by Augusta De Grasse Stevens and published in 1887. The book tells the story of a young boy named Louis-Charles, who is the son of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France. After the French Revolution, Louis-Charles is imprisoned in the Temple prison in Paris, where he dies at the age of 10. However, the novel proposes an alternative theory that Louis-Charles was actually smuggled out of the prison by loyalists and brought to America, where he was raised by an Indian Iroquois chief named Onwarenhiiaki. The novel follows the life of Onwarenhiiaki and Louis-Charles, who is given the Iroquois name Kouyou and raised as an Iroquois warrior. The story is set against the backdrop of the American Revolution, and the book explores the relationship between the Iroquois and the British and French forces. The novel also touches on themes of identity, loyalty, and the search for belonging.Overall, The Lost Dauphin: Louis XVII Or Onwarenhiiaki, The Indian Iroquois Chief is a unique and intriguing historical fiction novel that offers a new perspective on the life of Louis-Charles and the history of the Iroquois people. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
