Love and Jealousy is a historical drama set during the Stuart Insurrection of 1745, written by Charles M. Caughy and published in 1873. The story follows the lives of two young lovers, Sir George Montrose and Lady Edith Douglas, who find themselves caught up in the political turmoil of the time. Sir George is a loyal supporter of the Hanoverian King George II, while Lady Edith's family is staunchly Jacobite and supports the exiled Prince Charles Edward Stuart's claim to the throne. As the rebellion gains momentum, Sir George and Lady Edith's love is put to the test as they struggle to reconcile their personal feelings with their political loyalties. Along the way, they must also contend with jealousy, betrayal, and the harsh realities of war. The play is filled with historical figures such as Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Duke of Cumberland, and the Earl of Kilmarnock, and provides a vivid depiction of the events leading up to the Battle of Culloden. Love and Jealousy is a timeless tale of love, loyalty, and political intrigue set against the backdrop of a pivotal moment in British history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
