Hydraulic and pneumatic power actuators provide automatic control of ball, plug, and butterfly valves, as well as slide gates in water and wastewater applications. This new Manual of Water Supply Practices explains how various actuators are constructed and operated given specific parameters. While the existing AWWA Standard C541 lists the minimum design and performance requirements for Hydraulic and Pneumatic Cylinder and Vane-Type Actuators, the newly-published AWWA Manual of Practice M66 assists the user and specifier of these products by describing and illustrating the technical characteristics, operation and safe use of these products together with their accompanying controls and supply media. This Manual is the result of the three-year effort by a consensus committee of users, manufacturers, and engineering consultants who desired to develop a common language for and understanding of these products.
