Mottke The Vagabond: Mottke Ganef is a novel written by Sholem Ash and first published in 1917. The book tells the story of Mottke, a young Jewish boy who grows up in poverty in a small town in Eastern Europe. Mottke's family struggles to make ends meet and he is forced to leave home and become a vagabond in order to survive. As a vagabond, Mottke becomes a thief and is known as Mottke Ganef, or Mottke the Thief. He travels from town to town, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Along the way, Mottke meets other vagabonds and forms close bonds with them. He also falls in love with a young woman named Esther, who is also a vagabond. The novel explores themes of poverty, social inequality, and the struggle for survival. It also highlights the resilience and resourcefulness of the Jewish people in the face of adversity.
