Sheriff Jared, who shares an on-again off-again budding romance with Della, makes it his personal mission to protect her, but takes a dim view of her helping him investigate Jim's murder.

Della has become an excellent amateur sleuth when it comes to murder investigations, but when she learns that the FBI has become interested in the hit-and-run death of her husband over a year ago, she's not sure if that is a mystery she can solve.
