Robert Graber suffers the Bends and severe damage to his acoustic nerve during a scuba diving accident in Jamaica, leaving him deaf because of the repercussions of a curse placed upon him. At home, Robert acquires a set of hearing aids through which he begins to hear strange voices whispering to him. The voices become more sinister and overwhelming they take control of Robert by possessing him. Robert's wife Amelia turns to the Catholic church for help. The church realizes that they are dealing with a very powerful demon, Lucifer's second in command Malpahs. They begin a one-on-one battle with the Malphas to free Robert from the demon. After the exorcism, Robert begins waking up in a different reality with him as a mental patient suffering from schizophrenia associated with psychotic depression with a mind capable of anything. While others are trying to convince him that the reality is real, he is certain that it is just a dream and is forced to put his instinct to the test.
