Open it, David said, as he and Ben dropped to their knees, pushing their way between Charlie and I.
Charlie nodded and opened the box; inside was a uniform. It's German, he whispered, as he reached in pulling out what I knew to be an armband.
It had been folded and set on top of the uniform. I had seen them before, pictures in history books and at museums. The piece that Charlie now held was a red armband with a black swastika in the white circle.

That is a Nazi swastika, David whispered.
Is it a costume? Ben asked.
I don't think so, Charlie replied. I mean, why would Opa hide a Nazi costume... why would he even want one? Besides, this is old... the real thing.
We all knew that Opa had fought in WW2, even though he never spoke of it. And we didn't think it odd, for many WW2 vets didn't speak of their time overseas. We just always assumed that Opa had fought with the allies, like our great uncle Henry... perhaps we were wrong.
When Charlotte, her brother, Charlie, along with their cousins, David and Ben, discover a hidden box in their Opa's garage, they are shocked to discover its contents. A German Officers uniform, identification papers, an old note and photograph of an infant, along with a Nazi arm band. Could these items really have belonged to their Opa? But how... for they all knew of their Jewish heritage. When they confront their Oma with the box, she sits the family down, revealing the past. The entire family is shocked to discover the truth about their families' origins, learning that their Opa was not always the man they knew him to be; but rather a man with a dark secret and a dark past. How will Charlotte and the others come to terms with the truth and their family's dark history?
