They were led down a wooded path that opened into a small field of white sagging daises. The rain had bent their trunks toward the ground as remnants of fog floated toward the sky. Cocoa walked closely behind the detective holding a notepad with small scribbles across the front. Each footstep toward the corpse produced an undeniable smell of death and decay. The location of the body had been unmoved for at least a week, but the oddity of the developing situation was, the suspect returned to the crime scene.Three officers stood over a partially covered, naked corpse while another man in a green jumpsuit with plastic gloves took pictures. They measured different degrees and tied ropes and lines across the area. Another man held tight onto his flashlight and searched around the edges of the bushes using a writing pen to flip over small leaves. It was daylight, and Cocoa didn't truly grasp why he needed a flashlight to view what was in plain sight. He appeared to be ordering the other officers around and guiding them through the preliminaries of the investigation. As the detective approached the investigation site, the man with the flashlight took off his gloves and shook the detective's hand. Their words were muttered at best. Cocoa tried to hold her breath and take small gulps of air in an attempt not to appear as an amateur. The smell settled into the bottom of her stomach. She tried not to look at the corpse, but her eyes kept wandering toward the still body. Seeing his hands and feet were okay, but a glimpse into his unclosed eyes rolled her stomach into agitation. Cocoa gagged as gastric juices refluxed into her mouth. She then opened her mouth for air, but the stench was lingering, waiting to enter her lungs. Her lungs involuntarily expanded, inhaling the obnoxious fumes of the corpse.
