The Paths of the Prudent is a comedic play written by Joseph Smith Fletcher, first published in 1899. The story follows the lives of two young men, Jack and Tom, who are both in love with the same woman, Beatrice. However, Beatrice's father, Mr. Puddicombe, disapproves of both suitors and insists that she marry a wealthy but unscrupulous man named Mr. Kite. Determined to win Beatrice's heart, Jack and Tom devise a plan to outsmart Mr. Puddicombe and Mr. Kite. They enlist the help of a clever servant named Mary, who comes up with a scheme to expose Mr. Kite's true character and win over Mr. Puddicombe. As the plot thickens, the characters find themselves entangled in a series of humorous and unexpected situations. Will Jack and Tom succeed in winning Beatrice's heart, or will Mr. Kite and Mr. Puddicombe get their way? The Paths of the Prudent is a witty and entertaining play that explores themes of love, class, and social status. With its lively characters and clever plot twists, it remains a beloved classic of comedic literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
