Pearlie realizes that she has a problem getting her words out when speaking and reading. When asked to read out loud, the sounds seem to get stuck in her throat and her words will not come out. The more she tries, the more nervous she gets. Pearlie has a speech disorder called Stuttering. Pearlie knows what she wants to say but has trouble getting it out and saying it. In her dreams, Pearlie speaks fluently and is able to say all her words clearly. There are times Pearlie thinks she is dreaming, but her speech is a true reality!
