This account of my experience as a naval aviator during World War II is being written in order that my children and grandchildren, as well as other interested friends, may know the factual account of these experiences as I witnessed and lived them. Of course, I fully realize that these events may be of little or no interest to anyone but myself.

Although it has been over 30 years since the close of the war, the events of those days stand out very vividly in my memory. Also, I have very accurate records, including my Navy flight log books, which list names and dates that might otherwise have slipped my memory. In addition, I have in my possession most of the papers of my naval career. These have been a great help in putting well remembered events into proper sequence.
