The Religion of the Veda: The Ancient Religion of India is a scholarly book written by Maurice Bloomfield that explores the religious beliefs and practices of ancient India as reflected in the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. The book offers a comprehensive analysis of the Vedic religion and its evolution over time, including its rituals, gods, myths, and ethical principles. Bloomfield examines the Vedic hymns, prayers, and sacrificial rituals in detail, providing insights into the worldview of the Vedic people and their understanding of the divine. He also discusses the social and cultural context of the Vedic religion, including the role of priests, the caste system, and the impact of Buddhism and Jainism on Vedic traditions. The book is a valuable resource for scholars, students, and anyone interested in the history and philosophy of ancient India. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
