Located in the heart of the African continent, the Central African Republic has been weakened by decades of armed conflict following various military coups. The consequences have been dramatic in social and humanitarian terms.Porous borders have encouraged the proliferation of armed groups throughout the country, illegal arms trafficking, illegal mining, armed transhumance, conflicts between herders and farmers, conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and gender-based violence (GBV). Added to this are socio-political conflicts linked to poor governance by the ruling elites.In order to restore peace in the country, CSO actors and religious leaders have been heavily involved in the search for solutions to the military-political and socio-political crises at the root of the recurring tensions.
