AtribuÃda ao religioso Bento Morganti, a obra circulou na cidade de Lisboa -- num contexto marcado pela Censura e Inquisição -- em forma de folhas volantes entre os anos de 1752 e 1754. Ao longo de quatro coleções e 44 números, sua instância narrativa reflete com base em um pensamento próprio do Iluminismo sobre a necessidade de transformar a sociedade portuguesa, especialmente por meio da educação, com a finalidade de levá-la ao nÃvel das mais avançadas da Europa.
A presente edição diplomática dá a conhecer o Manuscrito de Coimbra e tenta contribuir para a pesquisa dos spectators em Portugal.
