This is a great book to read as a bed time story to children of all ages, and is a good read for grades 4 & up.
A magical, old-fashioned fairy tale: by John Buell: This is a wonderful callback to more traditional fairy tales. I could really feel the writer's heart on every page. It was longer than I expected, but it was a nice change of pace, and the story felt like it could really breathe as opposed to needing to zip along.
The artwork is really magical... there are two full spreads in particular that I really adored, including one that spans the glimmering night sky. These moments were priceless.
And there is a twist...! I will not say more, but it is wonderful and I did NOT see it coming.
I absolutely recommend this story to emerging readers, and I'm excited to see what this author chooses to tackle next!
