C.H. Cooper arrived in Mexico in 1911. The lure was a job with a large lumber conglomerate that paid good wages. The operation was in Northern Chihuahua and it was here, in the middle of the revolution, that he encountered such rebels as Pancho Villa and Ines Salazar. It was also here that many attempts were made on his life. In 1929 he moved to the state of Durango to take over a lumber mill owned by a British corporation. Here he raised a family and remained until 1950. Cooper's story of survival and success is fascinating and at the same time gives the reader a glimpse into Mexican history during a very tumultuous era.
