Renan's Life of Jesus is a book written by the French philosopher and historian Ernest Renan. Originally published in 1863, the book is a biography of Jesus Christ, based on Renan's extensive research into the historical and cultural context of the time in which Jesus lived. Renan's work was controversial at the time of its publication, as it challenged many traditional Christian beliefs and presented Jesus as a human figure rather than a divine one.Renan's Life of Jesus is divided into three parts. The first part explores the historical and cultural context of Jesus' life, including the political and social conditions of Palestine during the Roman occupation. The second part is a detailed account of Jesus' life, from his birth to his death and resurrection. Renan presents Jesus as a charismatic leader and teacher, who inspired a movement of followers that ultimately led to his execution by the Roman authorities. The third part of the book examines the impact of Jesus' life and teachings on the world, including the development of Christianity as a major world religion. Renan's writing is characterized by his poetic and lyrical style, as well as his emphasis on the importance of human emotion and experience in understanding the life of Jesus.Despite its controversial nature, Renan's Life of Jesus remains an important work in the history of Christian scholarship and continues to be studied and debated by scholars and theologians today.1897. The following translation of Renan's Vie de Jesus is made from the 13th edition of the complete work, which embodies the author's more mature views of his subject. The original work was begun, carried on, and, in its first form, completed during Renan's stay in Palestine, in the midst of the scenes in which the tragic story it relates had taken place. Partial Contents: Place of Jesus in the history of the world; Childhood; Education; First sayings; John the Baptist; Jesus at Capernaum; Disciples; Preaching; First attempts on Jerusalem; Miracles; Institutions of Jesus; Opposition to Jesus; Last Journey; Last Week of Jesus; Arrest, Trial and Death; Essential nature of the work of Jesus. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
