The story of Rumplestiltskin is one of the oldest narratives in literature, believed to be over 4000 years old. Hobgoblins and fairy folk often wanted to steal babies and replace them with their own. Most likely they thought they would be better cared for, and the human baby changeling would remain a baby and be a servant for them.
Rumplestiltskin was not happy that his name had been found out and he would no longer take away the human baby. He was determined to steal the baby and heard that the new queen's husband still kept her locked up and was now demanding more gold or her father would die. Rumplestiltskin has used up his three opportunities to turn straw into gold, so the situation was hopeless. More and more straw was being left for the queen to spin. It was useless, she and her father could never hope to change straw to gold, and they would surely be executed in the next few days.
