San Francisco Physician, Historian and Catholic Layman presents a fascinating transcript from a 1978 interview with Albert Shumate, offering a rich portrait of his life and contributions. As a physician, Shumate provided dedicated care to the San Francisco community. As a historian, he meticulously documented the city's past, preserving valuable stories and insights. And as a devout Catholic layman, he embodied faith and service.
This transcript, carefully compiled by Ruth Teiser and Catherine Harroun, with an introduction by Warren R. Howell, provides an intimate glimpse into Shumate's life, revealing his profound connection to San Francisco and his unwavering commitment to his profession, his historical pursuits, and his religious beliefs. This volume will appeal to anyone interested in San Francisco history, Catholic history, or the life of an exceptional individual.
