The Silent Mountain is a work of fiction, yet it is birthed from the very real mud and tears of that season. It is a story dedicated to the Johannesburg Ghosts-the thousands of Zimbabweans living in the diaspora who watched through the cold glow of their smartphones as their world disappeared, powerless to cross the flooded borders or reach the silent phone lines of their loved ones.
Through the journey of Tinashe Sithole, we explore the specific, agonizing weight of survivor's guilt. It is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, personified by the real and imagined heroes who dug with their bare hands when the machines could not reach them.
This book is for the families whose loved ones were carried by the floodwaters into Mozambique, for those whose homes are now marked only by a massive, immovable boulder, and for the children who still jump at the sound of a heavy rain.
