Since official South Carolina marriage records are extremely scarce, Mr. Holcomb labored valiantly to extract records of marriage from parish registers, as well as Quaker meeting records, marriage settlements, court records, bonds and licenses, and a variety of other sources. The work is arranged throughout in alphabetical order by the surname of the groom, and brides and others mentioned in the records are conveniently located in the index. Each entry gives the names of the bride and groom, the date of the marriage, and the source of the record.
