Las grandezas de Alejandro narra la vida y hazañas de Alejandro Magno. Con todo, debe mencionarse que el Fénix adapta al héroe a sus propósitos, y nos lo presenta distinto al de la tradición medieval. Acaso más cercano al imaginario de los destinatarios de la obra. Para su elaboración, Lope de Vega se servirá de la tradición latina y la tradición oral y folklórica.
Lope agrega, además de la caracterización de Alejandro, pequeños matices propios que hacen del personaje un claro ejemplo para el público que acudÃa a los corrales, que se impregnaba del carácter extraordinario de los personajes clásicos, admirándolos y ensalzándolos en su categorÃa de héroes.
