- Si buscas un libro que aborde lingüística y/o antropológicamente el idioma del pueblo Yámana o Yagán, este no es tu libro. Esta no es una obra académica sino poética, pictórica y lúdica.
- El presente es un trabajo de riqueza variada, pues es un acceso a la lengua yámana por medio de la poesía, que aquí sigue el estilo japonés del haiku. También se han incorporado sencillas y hermosas ilustraciones que pueden ser coloreadas. El hecho de emplear definiciones poéticas permite que este libro también sea un instrumento lúdico de adivinanzas, que puede disfrutarse tanto en contextos familiares como escolares.
- Se ha incorporado también un Anexo que recoge las enseñanzas dadas a los jóvenes que pasaban a la edad adulta por medio de una ceremonia de iniciación que recogió el antropólogo Martin Gusinde. Son enseñanzas muy prácticas y simples, pero que al mismo tiempo se perciben nutridas por una moral profunda y trascendente, propia de aquel pueblo.
- HAIKUS: Antiguo estilo poético japonés, compuesto normalmente por tres versos de 5-7-5 sílabas cada uno, sin rima, que hacen alusión a la naturaleza y a los ciclos de las estaciones, junto con temas trascendentes, logrando configurar una escena natural y sencilla, que al mismo tiempo transmite belleza y profundidad. Normalmente iban acompañados de dibujos o pinturas.
- YÁMANAS: Fueron el pueblo más austral del mundo, que vivieron en el extremo sur de Chile continental. Cazadores-recolectores marítimos, que pasaban gran parte de su vida arriba de sus canoas de corteza de árboles o en pequeños y precarios campamentos de chozas de pieles y armazón de palos a orillas del mar. Se ha destacado su gran riqueza idiomática, religiosa y ética.
