La de King Kong es una de las historias más clásicas e inquietantes del horror americano. En el cine, King Kong ha vivido tres hitos (1933, 1976, 2005). Pero en dos extraordinarias películas de 1933 y 2005, nunca existió un gorila gigante real: ni adiestrado ni animado mecánicamente. La película de 1976, para la que el productor quiso que se construyera un auténtico gigante mecanizado, merece una mención aparte: tenía que ser la estrella indiscutible. Olvídense de todas las demás ficciones, miniaturas y similares: el gorila gigante tenía que estar ahí. Lo había, es cierto, pero las cosas no salieron exactamente como la gente pensaba y todavía se nos hace creer. Esta es, pues, la triste historia de la que se suponía que iba a ser una estrella de la gran pantalla, pero cuya verdadera gloria en el celuloide duró muy poco.
