La novela cuenta la peculiar historia de Gaspar, un señorito de Madrid algo neurótico, quizá en cierta forma romántico, que está obsesionado por la muerte. Esta nueva presencia en su hogar le devolverá de nuevo una felicidad que no conocÃa, pero la Muerte (esa sirena negra del tÃtulo) tiene otros planes reservados para nuestro protagonista. 'La sirena negra' es una obra rica en matices y con un estilo ágil y que, bebiendo de tantas fuentes como lo hace, resulta una lectura amena y además constituye una mirada interesante a la producción más tardÃa y menos conocida de Emilia Pardo Bazán.
