Esta tesis, galardonada con el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la Facultad de FilosofÃa de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en 2015, estudia cómo la fÃsica de Aristóteles -articulada en torno a cinco principios clave: finitud, necesidad, vacÃo, unicidad del mundo y eternidad del universo- fue recibida, condenada y finalmente asimilada por Tomás de Aquino en el siglo XIII.
A partir de un amplio trabajo filológico sobre fuentes griegas, árabes y latinas (Chartularium Universitatis Parisiensis, Aristoteles Latinus y los comentarios y opúsculos de Tomás de Aquino), el libro reconstruye primero el contexto medieval de la recuperación del aristotelismo y de las grandes condenas de 1270 y 1277. Analiza después la fÃsica aristotélica tal como la conocieron los latinos del siglo XIII y, finalmente, muestra de manera detallada la original sÃntesis tomista entre la cosmologÃa del Estagirita y los dogmas cristianos de la creación, la omnipotencia divina y la contingencia del mundo.
Lejos de la imagen de una Edad Media oscurantista y ajena a la ciencia, esta investigación revela un paisaje intelectual dinámico, en el que la tensión entre razón y fe, entre herencia griega y teologÃa cristiana, impulsa una profunda transformación de la imagen del cosmos. La obra pone de relieve el papel decisivo de Tomás de Aquino en la configuración de una nueva filosofÃa de la naturaleza, cuyos problemas y soluciones siguen siendo decisivos para comprender el nacimiento de la ciencia moderna.
Ana Minecan (Bucarest, 1986) es Doctora en FilosofÃa por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, galardonada con el Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura (2010) y el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado (2015). Investigadora y divulgadora, dirige el Centro de Estudios Filosóficos Alétheia, desde donde promueve una enseñanza libre, rigurosa y apasionada de la filosofÃa, el arte y la historia de la ciencia.Also from
