ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Three sixteenth-century painters try to understand the violence in Europe and the New World.
Triptych of Infamy is a portrait of the complex relations between the old and new worlds during the early colonization of the Americas.
Three European artists narrate this novel: Jacques Le Moyne, a cartographer and painter from Dieppe; François Dubois, a painter from Amiens; and Théodore de Bry, an engraver from Liège. Each takes a different approach to the conquest of the Americas and the killing and devastation wrought in the name of religion on both sides of the Atlantic. They are witnesses, beneficiaries and victims of the glories and inequities of the times, and depict these contradictions in their art.
With weighty prose and an astounding ability to bring his material to life, Pablo Montoya immerses the reader in an era of great change, polemics and discoveries. The surprising stories told in this novel are a vivid account of the conquests and religious wars that shaped the destinies of so many human beings.
