All Erick Sunstrom wants to do is get to his family's beach house on quiet Marlowe Beach on the southern coast of North Carolina to close it up before Hurricane Michelle hits. The winds from the storm brewing offshore only exacerbate Erick's desire to get back to his world of offshore catamaran racing.
Eliza Rhodes has similar desires of escape, but with different reasons. During a trip home from her work as a marine scientist at Woods Hole, Massachusetts to visit her parents, Eliza volunteers to close up her family's beach house. Spending a night riding out the hurricane in an empty cottage on the shore becomes more appealing than dealing with her father's ongoing quiet judgment of her life. When Hurricane Michelle hits, the one time high school sweethearts and former couple are driven together by the storm for the safety and comfort of companionship. The two must confront a past filled with difficulties, conflicts, as well as passion and devotion. Eliza has not seen Erick since a tragic accident when she abandoned him. Erick has to look back even further, to the first time he saw Eliza and fell in love with her as a teenager. The two look back on their pasts, together and separate, while they struggle to discover just where, or if, they fit together in their future. In the heart of a hurricane, they must navigate their way through the tumult of wind and rain to confront their personal desires and the conflicted love they still have for each other.Stitched On My Heart is more than a coming of age romance novel. Set over the period of days caught in a storm during Hurricane Michelle, the two characters look back on their lives as teens, learning to be with each other while struggling with the control of their parents. As they grow into adults in their twenties, more complex problems arise, needs and personal desires, along with the discovery of the need for sacrifice to either be together, or to find success alone. Both Erick and Eliza must see how their past has shaped them and their relationship. They come to a point where they must make their choice, to change, to give up and give in, to be together, or to move forward with their own goals that are at odds with being a couple, no matter how much in love the two are.
