As per the Center for Disease and Control (CDC), Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. More than 48,000 people died by suicide in 2021. That is 1 death every 11 minutes. 12.3 million adults seriously thought about suicide. 3.5 million adults made a plan. 1.7 million adults attempted suicide.

This book is closely based on true events with only minor changes like names to obscure identifying data. The specific goal of the book is to highlight the profound impact that childhood trauma can have on our behaviours and life choices. We are not inherently bad. However, pathologic patterns of behaviours which result from childhood trauma can lead us to make unhealthy and harmful decisions. The only true solution is to bring unconscious conflicts to conscious awareness and cease the destructive patterns.

Adrian by all accounts, is a wonderful human being who devoted his life to helping others. Despite being in the field of psychology himself, he was unable to recognize his own pathologic patterns of behaviours that resulted from his childhood events until it was too late. This highlights the inability for all of us to objectively tackle this problem in the absence of a well-informed psychotherapist. His eventual understanding of these dynamics came too late for him to have been able to avoid what he considered catastrophic harm. While it was too late for him, he wanted to help others one last and profound time by helping them avoid following in his footsteps.
