This nature- and spirit-rich volume of poetry from artist and writer, Shannon Belthor, is presented in two sections. The first part of Thresholds, entitled Dusk, was composed in the Pacific Northwest, and explores landscapes of joyous rootedness, of earthly bindings, and longing for lighter ways. These poems share a sense of reaching through Earth into Sky. The second part, Dawn, reflects freedom and faraway living. Sky reaches back to Earth in these pieces, and there is a sense of alighting and mingling open-heartedly in denser realms. These were composed in anticipation of, and during, an extended stay in Ubud, Bali. Some of the poems in Thresholds appear, as well, in Shape-shifter: An Awakening on the Paths of Art and Gender, a contemplative narrative of the poet s creative and spiritual evolution. This gritty and lyrical memoir evokes the roots of her love of vocal cadence and flow, the impetus and evolution of Thresholds, and the spiritual awakening this writing helped to spawn.
