John (Jack) Wolf is a young man in the Fire Brigade in Birmingham during the early 1970s. We follow Jack in his next set of adventures firefighting with the Blue Watch at Aston Fire Station.
On a sunny afternoon in March 1974, we join Jack when he marries Sophia, daughter of his late fellow fireman Joseph Fowles, and a bright new chapter in Jack's life begins. But all too soon, its back to work and a busy summer firefighting.
Jack is thrown into the thick of it when Blue Watch are called to a fire in the basement of Aston University. He is the unexpected leader of a team of just two 'Pathfinders'. Wearing breathing apparatus, the two firemen are sent into the burning building to find the seat of the smoky fire. Deep in the fiery bowels of the university, shrouded in searingly hot smoke, Jack realises he has lost contact with his partner. While running low on air, Jack searches for him... Inevitably, the time comes when he must get out of the building before his air cylinder is empty and he suffocates. Will he leave his partner to die in a burning building alone? If he stays any longer, he will certainly perish searching for him. The decision torments him. This could mean the end of Jack's life or at least an end to his career for abandoning a fellow fireman. Will he leave his partner to his fate?
And all the while, the fire devil watches and waits... the devil taunts him and it burns him.
