Under a guava tree, Beauty and Linda sat in awkward quiet, both of them waiting for the other to speak first. Beauty waited eagerly and questioned why Linda was silently sitting there. She occasionally moved her seat, and when the stillness became intolerable, she yelled, Look, Linda, I know you are here to question me why I haven't been coming to the church.
Lindo answered, I'm sorry if I offended you; I was simply wondering how to start this dialogue without appearing critical or offensive.
I understand, Beauty murmured after pausing for a while.
I hope you're doing well, Lino enquired. Beauty sadly shook her head in response and said, No, I'm not fine. Due to my perception that attending church is worthless, I have stopped going. Yes, it's futile, she said, observing Lindo's reaction. First, my husband passed away, leaving me to care for four kids by myself. My third child is critically ill, my first son is being kept in police custody for a crime he did not commit, my pay is not exactly stellar, and I recently found a growth on my chest. I have prayed in a variety of ways and gone to a variety of places of worship, yet I am still at the same place. You know, I originally considered waiting for death to arrive, but I'm not sure I can wait any longer. I might end it and put an end to this wretched life.
