This is the only book in twenty years that provides you the finest illustrated source of United Nations military medals for over 70 years of UN peacekeeping operations. Every United Nations medal and ribbon is displayed in color along with a brief history of the peacekeeping mission and the countries which participated in the mission. The colors and ribbon heraldry is described for each medal as well as the period and time frame of the award. There is an excellent background and history of the United Nations with a chronological overview of how and where the peacekeeping missions developed in the world. Additionally, there is a nice section which describes the history of the United Nations emblem and symbols.
The world approach to United Nations awards is laid out along with examples of how different countries award and place United Nations medals within their pyramids of honor. The various United Nations clasp and devices are illustrated and shown on the medals where they are used. Most useful is the two-page chart laying out all of the peacekeeping ribbons chronologically by their mission with direct reference to full-page descriptions of the mission, the medal, the participants, the timeframe and the number of personnel involved.
The level of detail is impressive especially where all of the variations of United Nations Korean medal are shown in color. In addition to over 70 United Nations peacekeeping medals other important peacekeeping organizations medals are described and shown.
