This is the third of the Clément trilogy. Book One, The History of Victor Clément. took us from his birth and being abandoned in a Paris suburb, and spending the next 11 years in an orphans' home. After being trafficked to China where he was mauled by Beijing surgeons who download the entire contents of a 73 year old man Ted Willis. Victor survives, and appreciates what has happened but is sent to Milan to recuperate. His only concern is to escape to 'his' Marlow property which he does with the unwitting assistance of an female Italian doctor. Back in the UK, and with the assistance of guardians, he starts at a local school where he terrifies the teachers with his very high IQ and puts them in their place when they test his intellect. Then the father of a girl he takes a fancy to decides there is something rather 'odd' about the boy and discovers his real father and mother with some surprising results. In book two, 'Target Victor Clément' Beijing find a need to seize the boy and take him back to China, so engage a number of agents to find him. The leader of the kidnap gang, Fok, who runs a side-line in the worst kind of pornography, and after killing a girl in the Cayman Islands where Beijing believed Victor to be, Fok escapes justice by flying back to China, where he is reassigned to work with a team to conduct a search in the UK. But not all his helpers are keen to help him, and a young couple decide he should face justice and when in the UK with Fok tell immigration about the man. A French team has also been instructed to find the boy as the Chinese believe Fok has been compromised. The pursuers close in on Victor, but he and his friends have other ideas. It all ends very messily, and as a result of the publicity, Clément now learns that many years ago and unknown to him, his former self fathered twins ... In book three, 'Victor Clément. The Final Chapter' Clément joins the forces, but his performance is such that certain officers believe that he has been planted by some foreign power as an enemy agent, but MI6 recruit him to work for them, and fast-track him through his training. Eventually, Clément gets involved in the new 'Special Operation' as an MI6 agent, but after just one trip is so appalled by what he regards as a 'Cowboy' outfit, that he drafts a report setting out his concerns ... but before he can send it to his bosses, he is off on another trip, but prepares himself for what he believes will be the inevitable, viz. a disaster. When it comes, Victor finds himself being imprisoned thousands of miles from home and threatened with a painful death. However, Victor is prepared for the worst. But with his intelligence, planning and fortitude the worst does not happen ... but it gets pretty close.
