Dưới Cội Bồ-đề bắt đầu từ cội bồ-đề ở Bồ-đề Đạo Trà ng, Ấn Độ, nơi hơn 2500 năm trước đức Phật ThÃch-ca Mâu-ni đã chiến thắng ma quân, thà nh bậc Chánh Đẳng Chánh Giác. Ở miền Thánh địa đó, có lần một vị Thầy và mấy đệ tử đã gặp nhau, sau khi đi tam bộ nhất bái từ Thánh Địa Lộc Uyển về đến Thánh Địa Bồ Đề Đạo Trà ng, đoạn đường hơn 200 cây số giữa cái nóng bức cháy người của Ấn Độ. Ở đó có các vị trong số họ đã phát nguyện đốt ngón tay để dâng lên lời đại nguyện suốt đời đi theo con đường Chánh pháp. Và còn nhiều sự kiện về quá trình tu tập, thọ giới v.v... của những vị đệ tử khác của Hòa Thượng được tác giả tự ghi lại nơi đây.
Và đặc biệt ở đó, cũng Dưới Cội Bồ-đề nà y, Hòa Thượng Như Điển đã tham dự Lễ Tấn Phong và đÃch thân gắn huy hiệu Cấp Dũng cho người Huynh Trưởng anh cả của Gia Đình Phật Tử Việt Nam là Huynh Trưởng Cao Chánh Hựu. Tác giả kể lại: Sau đó Thầy Viên Lý, Thầy Nguyên Siêu và chúng tôi đã rước nến từ nơi Kim Cương Tòa đốt sáng cả một chân trời rồi từ từ truyền ánh sáng ấy qua cho anh Cao Chánh Hựu, anh Tư Đồ Minh và anh Bạch Hoa Mai. Đây là một dấu mốc quan trọng, một sự kiện lịch sử có một không hai của Tổ Chức Gia Đình Phật Tử Việt Nam ở trong cũng như ngoà i nước.
Rồi từ chÃnh từ những hạt giống của Cội Bồ-đề nơi Đức Thế Tôn đại phá ma quân ấy, tác giả đã mang đi gieo trồng khắp nơi. Tác giả viết: Sách nà y gồm những tản văn liên quan đến cuộc đời Đức Phật, Hoà ng Đế Asoka, Hoà ng Tử Mahinda và những chuyện liên quan đến việc tu học. Ngà y xưa chư Tổ dạy: 'Tạo tự dị, tạo tăng nan.' Nghĩa là là m chùa thì dễ mà đà o tạo một vị tăng sĩ thì rất khó. Do đó ngà y nay tôi quan niệm xây dựng con người là vấn đề tối quan trọng, hơn là việc xây chùa.
Do vậy, tác giả cũng đã nhắc đến ở đây hà ng chục, hà ng trăm những người đệ tử của mình. Những vị ấy bây giờ đã là Thượng Tọa, Đại Đức, Ni Sư... đang đảm nhiệm nhiều trách nhiệm quan trọng của Giáo Hội và họ cũng đang chăm sóc các Cội Bồ-đề khác nhiều nơi trên thế giới.
