This book is written for those who look at the night sky from the southern half of the world, not just astronomically, but magically. It is for witches, spirit-workers, stargazers, and root-diggers who feel the pull of the planets, especially when they move in reverse.
Planetary retrogrades, often feared or dismissed in mainstream astrology, are sacred moments in the witch's calendar. They are spirals of return, echo chambers of soul work, and portals through which ancestors whisper.
But to truly understand retrogrades as a magical tool, one must re-root astrology in the land and spirit of the South. This book does exactly that: it returns planetary movement to Southern soil, weaving a distinctly South African perspective on retrogrades and the witch's craft.

Most mainstream astrology, and most books on planetary retrogrades, are written from a Northern Hemisphere point of view. The Sabbats are reversed, the constellations are unfamiliar, and the Wheel of the Year turns opposite to our lived reality. For Southern witches, this has always been a point of friction: how do we practice star magic when the maps we inherit are upside-down?
Here, in the South, Orion rises differently, the Southern Cross stands proudly in our night sky, and the Milky Way curves across us like a river of ancestors.
The planets do not just cross our skies; they move through a Southern cultural landscape, shaped by the spirit of the land, the dreams of the people, and the echoes of ancient African cosmologies.
Our witchcraft is rooted in red earth, in summer rains, in the voices of rivers and baobabs. When we speak of Mercury retrograde, we speak of tech malfunctions and communication breakdowns, yes-but we also speak of the ancestors calling through dreams, of forgotten languages stirring in the bones, of messages misheard because they came in the wind, not through the wires.
