When Malindy Sings is a collection of poems written by African American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar and published in 1903. The book is named after one of Dunbar's most famous poems, which celebrates the beauty and power of the voice of a black woman named Malindy. The collection includes a mix of dialect poems, which use the vernacular speech of African Americans in the 19th century, and standard English poems. Many of the poems deal with themes of love, nature, and the struggles of black life in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Dunbar was one of the first African American poets to gain national recognition, and his work was praised by both black and white audiences. When Malindy Sings is considered one of his most important works, showcasing his mastery of language and his ability to capture the beauty and complexity of black life in America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
