Nationally toured, Award Winning Spoken Word Artist Prostell steps from behind the microphone to recount his ten year journey through the self described cult The United Nation of Islam. Armed with his trademark wit and wisdom Prostell chronicles his cross country tale of sex, drugs, and salvation. . . . Though I looked a far cry from my hood days, dressed as an FOI, clean cut, sober and moving with purpose and direction, I still felt like the same kid from back off East Warren when I saw police cars.It wasn't long before my experience in Heaven began to challenge even these deep seeded notions. One night in the barracks we got a call from Brother Charles who was doing security at the University.I need Brothers here now! We got a break-in here at the University!Five Brothers hopped up, threw on sweats, jean shorts, everything NOT befitting an FOI, scrambled down the stairs and smashed into the tiny compact vehicle sitting directly in front of the barracks. In the mad dash, none of us had grabbed a lick of ID as we sped off into the night toward the University.Tires screeched, and the car bouncing as we took turn after turn, speeding thru whatever lights sought to slow us down on our mission. That is until the red and blue lights got behind us.Yeah this is a wrap, I thought to myself. Here is this car full of big burly black men, speeding through the streets of KC at 3 o'clock in the morning, not an ID amongst them. Completely understandably, the cops stepped out of the car, weapons already drawn. Knowing what was next; I took a deep breath and waited to be told to get out of the car one by one.Just then, before the cop can say another word, Brother Doug leans his head out of the window. We are with the United Nation of Islam, we just got a call about a break in at our University, and we need to get there. The cop took a step back, raised his hand to his partner, and said, You fellas drive safely. And off we sped again.I wonder if Heaven got Ghetto indeed. All this time had been wasted trying to convince me that Royall is Allah, and that the UNOI was the fulfillment of prophecy when all they had to do was tell me I could get pulled over speeding thru the hood, run lights, have no ID and just say who I am with and not only will the cops let me go, but will wish me safe travels. That experience in itself was divine intervention where I was from. Hell, you could have ALL of your paperwork in order and the police would still find some reason to hassle you.
