Between September 18, 1814 and June 9, 1815, representatives of the powers that had defeated Napoleon Bonaparte met in Vienna, the capital of the Kingdom of Austria, to reorganize the borders of Europe, reestablish the absolutist Old Regime, eradicate the ideals of the French Revolution, and establish a balance of power to avoid new large-scale wars, such as those that had plagued the continent for almost thirty years.
The Holy Alliance was being born.
