From his childhood in Kampala to the streets of New York where he organized tenants, challenged power, and inspired a movement, Zoran's life reflects the very spirit of resilience that defines immigrant families worldwide. This book is divided into eight parts-roots, growth, struggle, political awakening, leadership, the road to mayorship, transformation of the city, and legacy. Each section explores not only the events of Zoran Mamdani's life but the emotional landscape behind those events. I have tried to portray the young boy who learned empathy long before he learned politics, the activist who stood in the rain with tenants fighting eviction, the legislator who challenged systems built on inequality, and the future mayor who dared to believe that a more humane city was possible.
While New York is the backdrop, the story reaches far beyond its borders. It is the universal tale of immigrants who rise despite every obstacle. It is the story of the working poor who find strength in solidarity.
