The inspiration for this work was the product of a lifetime of effort in building, expanding and maintaining an enterprise in the city of Livonia, Michigan. The founder of this business venture arose in the midst of the Depression era. He built his operation from scratch based on an interest in the installation of glass to all types of home furnishings, shower enclosures, entryways and all manner of buildings. Five decades of involvement in this industry yielded a company that survived him and remains in full functionality today. His decisions over these decades have been distilled into ten key practices. These practices are enumerated and examined in light of personal history and detailed experiences. Together, the steps he used seem to have created a series of principles that seem accessible in building any type of individual enterprise. This work can act as a primer to anyone seeking to create a venture in any number of new businesses.
